{"id":7253,"date":"2026-04-22T07:56:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T05:56:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peoplefirst.hu\/?post_type=news&#038;p=7253"},"modified":"2026-04-22T08:20:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T06:20:20","slug":"community-accessibility-in-pecs-we-are-starting","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/peoplefirst.hu\/en\/news\/community-accessibility-in-pecs-we-are-starting\/","title":{"rendered":"Community accessibility in P\u00e9cs \u2013 WE ARE STARTING!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"278\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/international.pte.hu\/\"> University of P\u00e9cs<\/a> is committed to social inclusion and diversity, therefore a comprehensive accessibility project has recently been launched, which explores the accessibility needs of university locations and, in a later phase, will also implement concrete interventions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"280\" data-end=\"734\">This process is complemented and strengthened by the <a href=\"https:\/\/peoplefirst.hu\/en\/blog-post\/pecs-city-civil-financial-framework-2025\/\">community-based program of the People First Public Benefit Association<\/a>, within the framework of the P\u00e9cs Municipal Civil Fund 2025 supported by the City of P\u00e9cs with County Rights. Within this framework, everyday user experiences are collected\u2014with the active involvement of university citizens, students and staff\u2014about accessibility difficulties of the university faculties and their surroundings.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"995\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The aim of the cooperation is that<strong> accessibility should not appear exclusively as an institutional task, but become a shared social cause.<\/strong> The project draws attention to mutual consideration, as well as to the importance of social inclusion and accessibility.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"29\"><strong>What do we want to achieve?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"31\" data-end=\"403\">the involvement of university citizens in the process of accessibility<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31\" data-end=\"403\">the supplementation of the University of P\u00e9cs data collection with practical experiences<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31\" data-end=\"403\">the further development of the <a href=\"https:\/\/peoplefirst.hu\/en\/barrier-free-pecs\/\">Barrier-free P\u00e9cs Database<\/a><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31\" data-end=\"403\">the strengthening of inclusive thinking and community responsibility in P\u00e9cs and at the University of P\u00e9cs<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"31\" data-end=\"403\">setting an example for other universities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"59\"><strong>With us, not without us \u2013 why is participation important?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"61\" data-end=\"448\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Accessibility goes beyond legal compliance. <strong>In order for truly usable solutions to be created, feedback is needed<\/strong> that can be perceived during everyday mobility, studying, and working. The program of the People First Public Benefit Association connects this lived experience with the institutional developments of the University of P\u00e9cs, making the needs of a wider target group visible.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"27\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How can you get involved?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li data-start=\"29\" data-end=\"499\"><strong>Observe<\/strong> university spaces and the routes leading to them from an accessibility perspective. Is it high enough, low enough, wide enough, is there a ramp, are there appropriate signs\u2026 in short, is it usable for EVERYONE? Think about entrances, the accessibility of workplaces and classrooms, the usability of the cafeteria, library, conference rooms, don\u2019t leave out the dormitories, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, bus stops, and even the most popular nightlife spots.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"29\" data-end=\"499\"><strong>Document it:<\/strong> photo + a short <strong>description<\/strong> of the location and the problem, supplemented with your <strong>proposed solution<\/strong> \u2013 because this is the most valuable for us!<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"29\" data-end=\"499\"><strong>Send it<\/strong> to the email address of the People First Public Benefit Association:<br \/>\n<strong><a class=\"decorated-link cursor-pointer\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"742\" data-end=\"767\">accesspecs@peoplefirst.hu<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"29\" data-end=\"499\">Your valuable feedback will be processed and included in the appropriate professional process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"39\"><strong>What happens to the incoming reports?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"41\" data-end=\"155\">The reports are analyzed by a team of experts with disabilities.<br data-start=\"105\" data-end=\"108\" \/>Then, depending on the nature of the problem:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"540\">they are added to the Barrier-free P\u00e9cs Database if the accessibility improvement can be solved immediately.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"540\">they are forwarded to the competent institution (pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, bus stops).<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"540\">they reach the relevant units of the University of P\u00e9cs, where they provide an excellent basis for the accessibility strategy already being developed at the University of P\u00e9cs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"542\" data-end=\"631\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">In this way, community experiences provide a real foundation for institutional decisions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"23\"><strong>As a token of thanks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"25\" data-end=\"301\">Your participation is very valuable, so we would like to give special thanks for your activity.<br data-start=\"120\" data-end=\"123\" \/>The most active contributors can win cinema tickets, University of P\u00e9cs souvenirs, as well as participation in the special <a href=\"https:\/\/peoplefirst.hu\/en\/barrier-free-pecs\/\">Hidden City Tor-Tour<\/a> of the People First Association.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"592\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><strong>Join the community data collection now and support the accessibility efforts of the University of P\u00e9cs with real experiences<\/strong>.
